What is it about?

This paper presents a history of the assumptions that led to backshell radiative heating being ignored for Earth entry prior to 2014, how this assumption was found to be erroneous, and then how backshell radiative heating was included for the backshell design of the Orion capsule for the Artemis-1 mission. Backshell heating measurements from the Artemis-1 flight showed that including this backshell radiative heating component.
