What is it about?
Carbon-phenolic ablative thermal protection material for atmospheric reentry relies on the release and outflow of pyrolysis gas in the material. This results in a pressure increase in the material sample, for which little experimental data exists. We measure this internal pressure during ablation experiments and study its effect on the ejection of solid particles or fragmentation of the material.
