Atomic oxygen is a very reactive type of oxygen that predominately exist in low Earth orbit. It is so reactive that it can easily break molecular bonds in materials, especially polymers. We preformed ground tests with atomic oxygen for preselected materials being launched in the 22nd Materials International Space Station experiment Flight Facility.
