What is it about?
Numerical simulations were carried out of supersonic flow over an asymmetric missile-shaped body studied experimentally at NASA Ames Research Center in the 1980s. In agreement with the experiments, the computations predicted a highly unsteady, complex turbulent flow. Relative to calculations with conventional turbulence models, improved predictions of the flow were obtained with simulations that resolved the largest scale turbulence in the flow.
