What is it about?

Many objects that could collide with Earth-orbiting satellites are debris generated by on-orbit explosions or collisions. This study shows how radar measurements provide a means of estimating the sizes and masses of such unknown objects. The study also shows how the radar based estimates and uncertainties can be incorporated into the calculation of probabilities of on-orbit collisions and associated fragmentation events.
