What is it about?
This research deals with a new feedback guidance and control technique for terminal atmospheric entry and landing, based on sliding surfaces. The final conditions correspond to a given landing point, with prescribed vertical velocity and heading angle, for correct alignment with the runway. Dispersed initial conditions and wind shear are included in a Monte Carlo campaign. The numerical results prove that the guidance and control architecture at hand is able to drive a landing vehicle toward the desired final conditions, in the presence of challenging nonnominal flight conditions.
