Passive Control of Transonic Flow over a Blunt Body Using Aerospikes

What is it about?

Experimental studies were conducted on launch vehicle payload fairing which will be prone to buffet excitations. The different flow patterns were observed on the body. The aerodynamic coefficients were are shown sudden jumps and an oscillating shock phenomenon was also observed. With the use of a passive control device like aerospike, these unwanted features were eliminated.
