What is it about?

Two different performance engines were used for integrated optimization of SSTO's airframe, flight path and engine. As a result, it was confirmed that the difference of engine performance affect flight path and airframe configuration. Furthermore, it was found that despite the short period of time, improvement in specific impulse of engine at low speed greatly contributes to the feasibility of SSTO.

Why is it important?

The integrated optimization is needed for design of SSTO vehicle. A new optimization method, called the stochastic process optimization technique, was adopted. As a result, the optimum airframe configuration and flight path according to the engine performance were achieved.
