What is it about?

The paper is about building up the control scheme of a solid oxide fuel cell system while presenting its performance and challenges. The fuel cell system is considered for the powertrain of future regional aircrafts with an entry-into-service in 2050. Dynamic gate-to-gate mission simulations in Modelica are used to build up and investigate the control scheme.

Why is it important?

Many studies are focusing, legitimately, on steady state analyses and sizing tools of the powertrains of future aircrafts. However, this work answers the question, if novel powertrain architectures such as a solid oxide fuel cell system can be operated and controlled over a complete flight mission.
