What is it about?
Synthesizing an optimal output-feedback controller generally requires solving a series of non-convex problems, which does not guarantee a globally stabilizing solution. However for incompressible flows, we discovered that convex constraints can be developed to design globally-stabilizing output-feedback controllers. In this paper, we propose a framework to design globally-stabilizing output-feedback controllers using the fact that incompressible flows have energy-conserving nonlinearities. The designed controller is demonstrated on a low-order fluid flow model.

Why is it important?
We describe a controller synthesis framework, which allows for developing convex constraints to capture global behavior of any dynamical system with an energy-conserving nonlinearity.
