What is it about?

Extremely high-speed flight can create dangerous oscillations of exposed skin panels, which can lead to failure and loss of the entire vehicle. Understanding changes in the behavior of the skin panels requires detailed parametric studies, which are provided in this paper.

Why is it important?

This paper provides experimental results for a highly relevant but rarely investigated configuration. It further shows clear evidence of coupling between structure and flow using state-of-the-art full-field imaging techniques.

Perspectives

Featuring a significant portion of my PhD, this publication represents my structural dynamics perspective on this coupled multiphysics problem.
