What is it about?
"Red Kite" is a solid propellant rocket motor designed by German Aerospace Center DLR and Bayern Chemie GmbH to serve the needs of the sounding rocket community. With the concept and coarse definition of the motor layout finished, the paper describes the motor performance and selected construction details.

Why is it important?
German Aerospace Center DLR has contracted Bayern Chemie GmbH to deliver the first motor units by 2023. From this point on, the motor will become available to the sounding rocket community all over the world extending the range of missions that can be supported by these type of vehicles.
Perspectives
The paper focusses on motor details and gives a first impression of performance, dimensions and weights. It allows reader from the field to assess usability of the stage for future missions. A follow on paper will expand on the vehicle combinations and their performance that become possible.
