What is it about?
The safety of vehicles is closely related to the integrity of their thermal protection system (TPS). Aerogel-cored stitched sandwich composites (ACSSC) represent a promising material for TPS. Our room-temperature vibration failure test demonstrated that under bending-vibration conditions, the ACSSC panel experienced fatigue failure behavior, with core shear cracking as the main form of failure. We acquired the fatigue life curve for ACSSC based on tests and provided a qualitative explanation of the cause of cracking near the bottom layer of the core using simulations.
