What is it about?
The behavior of laminar separation bubbles, which can occur in airfoil flows, is already very well investigated for steady-state conditions. In this study, such a separation bubble was exposed to periodic gusts. Various transient effects in the boundary layer could be identified. For the investigations, a hybrid approach with URANS simulations in combination with direct numerical simulation was used, which was validated with results from wind tunnel measurements.
