What is it about?
Avoiding the onset of unstable oscillations, known as "flutter", is a key consideration when designing aircraft, particularly as their wings grow increasingly long and flexible to increase efficiency. We present the first framework capable of optimizing the design of very flexible wings using detailed computer models, while accounting for the ways in which their large deformations affect flutter onset.
