What is it about?

Unsteady aerodynamic optimization problems, such as drag minimization, can be considerably expensive in terms of computational cost. If unsteady flows are periodic in time, the harmonic balance method can be used to reformulate these problems as a mathematically steady one, significantly reducing computational expense. The following study develops a solution method for periodic unsteady optimization problems using the harmonic balance approach, and converged solutions are reached in less than a couple hundred total iterations.
