What is it about?

Devices called acoustic dampers are often installed in jet and rocket engines to reduce noise. The conditions inside a jet or rocket engine are hot and loud, and the sound waves can form spinning patterns. To understand how well an acoustic damper will work in a jet or rocket engine, it is important to measure it in a laboratory under similar conditions. This paper describes how to build an experimental facility for measuring acoustic dampers in hot and loud conditions with spinning sound waves. Additionally, this paper describes a method to determine how accurate the measurements are.
