What is it about?

In many modern applications in the aerospace industry, we would like to be able to determine how mean quantities in turbulent fluid flows respond to changes in control variables. The ensemble sensitivity method is a simple way to calculate these mean responses. In this paper, we discuss how this method converges too slowly to be of practical value to engineers. We explain why that is the case by constructing optimistic estimates of the rate at which this method converges, when the system exhibits chaotic behavior.
