Spectral Broadening of Tonal Sound Propagating Through an Axisymmetric Turbulent Shear Layer

What is it about?

Tonal sound generated by the fan or turbine in a modern turbofan aero-engine radiates through the turbulent exhaust jet causing the sound to be scattered into different frequencies. We show how to predict the scattering of sound propagating through an axisymmetric turbulent shear layer using a theoretical method.
