What is it about?
Current aircraft flight deck interfaces do not provide information on how a performance-altering failure constrains an aircraft's flight envelope. As a result, it is difficult for flight crews to plan maneuvers in order to reach navigation targets. We found that presenting flight envelope constraints on a navigation display, in the form of a reachable navigation envelope, can provide more useful cues (regarding short-term tactical control actions at reduced workload levels) than cues on a primary flight display.
