What is it about?
Designing a good Distributed Propulsion system requires knowledge on the influence of several design parameters on the ensuing aerodynamic propeller-wing interactions. A fundamental investigation of several such design parameters was carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamics, reavealing a great sensitivity of the performance towards the vertical propeller position and the angle of attack. The inclination of the propeller relative to the wing shows great potential to minimize the propulsive penalty while maintaining large lift increases.
