Design of Hybrid Airfoils for Icing Tunnel Tests Based on Reduced-Order Modeling Methods

What is it about?

When a full-scale airfoil cannot be tested in existing icing wind tunnel, the airfoil should be scaled. A hybrid airfoil is the scaled airfoil maintaining the leading edge of the full-scale airfoil. We show a method that can match distributions of important parameters in icing phenomenon. Then, it is confirmed that the method can minimize the discrepancy between full-scale and hybrid airfoils.
