What is it about?

The wings of long range passenger aircraft are designed to reduce the drag, the mass, and the corresponding mission fuel consumption. The used materials and the structural design of the wing influences the wing mass and the wing deformations. In this work the fuel saving potential of more flexible wings has been studied and the optimal wing shape is presented.
