What is it about?
Multifunctional structural materials that store electrical energy could be used in aircraft structures to develop lighter, more environmentally-friendly aircraft. We investigate the performance requirements, benefits and practicalities of adopting these materials in aircraft cabins to power the in-flight entertainment system.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that aircraft can be made significantly lighter by using multifunctional structural materials, which can lead to substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and fuel cost savings.
