What is it about?

Wings with high aspect ratio have been studied and considered in aircraft design due to its reliable performance with lower fuel consumption. This study helps to understand the structural behaviour of these wings in order to allow their application in a wider range of aircraft (experimental, civil, military) with a safer design analysis.

Why is it important?

As this type of wing needs a specific design to support the load distribution originated from its aeroelastic phenomena, our findings help to analyse and guide the design of a light, resistant and reliable wing.

Perspectives

This article shows a different point of view from aeroelastic tailoring research and during my master's research period, we saw that these wings were not deeply evaluated from the structural point of view. I hope this article helps the following research and viability of high-aspect-ratio wings application, facilitating the understanding of their structural behaviour and giving a broader view of aircraft design.
