What is it about?

This paper studies a minimum-time orbital transfer from Earth to Mars. The problem is modeled in four phases to account for planetary alignment, Earth departure, motion relative to the Sun, and Mars arrival. The optimization is performed using modern methods for the numerical solution of trajectory optimization problems and the results are analyzed.
