Development of the Low-Density Phenolic-Based Fibrous Ablator ZURAM-K

What is it about?

ZURAM® is a low density thermal protection material developed for atmospheric entry missions. By substituting the carbon preform with a phenolic fiber preform, we were able to achieve a significant reduction of the thermal conductivity, while recession rates are comparable to the ones of standard material.
