What is it about?
In this paper, we present a proposal for indicators to measure and evaluate the results produced by engineering research groups at the Cooperative University of Colombia. The idea was to create a tool that would provide clear and objective information on the extent to which these groups are contributing to academic, scientific, and social development. We designed the indicators with a view to ensuring that they can be easily applied on the SINFONI institutional platform, so that the results can be recorded and analysed systematically. Our aim is to strengthen research management and facilitate decision-making in order to improve its impact.

Why is it important?
This research is important because it offers a clear method adapted to the university context for objectively measuring the results of engineering research groups, which is key to ensuring that their efforts truly generate academic and social value. What makes it unique is that the indicators were specifically designed to be integrated into the SINFONI platform, which facilitates their use, monitoring, and analysis within the institution itself. Its approach combines quantitative measurement with qualitative assessment, allowing not only for the accounting of products, but also for an understanding of their relevance and contribution to development. In this way, it provides a practical and applicable tool that improves internal research management and strengthens its alignment with institutional and regional goals.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a gratifying process because it allowed us to address a challenge we often face in academia: how to truly measure the value and impact of our research groups beyond just counting publications. Collaborating with colleagues who share a vision for making evaluation more transparent and meaningful was inspiring. For me, the most rewarding part was designing indicators that not only fit the institutional platform SINFONI, but also reflect the real contributions of our engineering research to society. I hope this work motivates other institutions to create measurement systems that are both practical and aligned with their mission, so that data becomes a tool for growth rather than just a requirement.
