What is it about?

This cluster randomized controlled study is about the effectiveness of an extension oriented exercise program applied on nursery school teachers to prevent and/or manage low/neck pain All the teachers in both groups received an ergonomic brochure; teachers in the experimental group also received an extension-oriented exercise program, conducted by a physical therapist.

Why is it important?

At the two-months follow-up a significant improvement was registered in the experimental group for the level of disability measured by the Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire and the Oswestry Disability Index and the cervical and lumbar physical discomfort, measured by the Visual Analogue Scale.

Perspectives

In conclusion an extension-oriented exercise program may be a useful strategy to prevent low back and neck complaints and to reduce consequent LBP functional disability among nursery school teachers.
