What is it about?
This paper presents a guide to the analysis of preloaded bolted joints made using a single row of bolts. A classical analysis of loads and stresses in a single bolt is developed.

Why is it important?
This type of joint is typical of bolts around the edge of a closure plate or a simple bracket.
Perspectives
The design analysis methods that I have presented in other, previous, works are ideal for more complex bolt group patterns but are not applicable to a single row of fasteners due to the small/narrow footprint of the joint. This addresses that limitation by considering the narrow foot print from first principles.
