What is it about?
The research is mainly focused on variations of fuel consumption by the ship passing a certain distance to reach the nominal constant speed. It is concluded that, for a given travel distance, it is possible to save considerable amount of fuel at the expense of slight increase of journey time.

Enhancing the ship energy efficieny in combination to mitigation and reduction of GHG emissions demand a wide range research in this field.
Perspectives
Correct tuning of ship control system may lead to minimizing the emissions. This paper is a try to investigate on this thesis.
