Why is it important?

Monitoring of thyroid function based on T4 and ultrasound examination is helpful in assessing the health status and living conditions of reptiles, but it should be interpreted with caution as many factors may influence the results.

Perspectives

Evaluation of thyroid function should be included in routine reptile veterinary practice. The results of such examinations should be shared by practitioners for better understanding of factors influencing thyroid gland and more accurate reference levels of T4 in various species.
