What is it about?
This study explores the major socio-economic attributes of vegetable farmers that hinder them from having access to farm credit. The study looks at how farmer's personal attributes and institutional factors contribute to poor access to credit among the producers of indigenous leafy vegetables and make recommendations based on the findings.

Why is it important?
Indigenous vegetable production is a newly explored avenue to address low farm income and prevalence of non-communicable disease in the resource poor farming communities. To this end, credit access is needed to boost the production of these traditional vegetables and conserve their genomes from extinction.
Perspectives
The reasons banks and other formal lending institutions refuse to grant loan to vegetable farmers were breakdown to farmer's attributes, farm attributes and institutional peculiarities. The study then identified farmer's, farm's and institutional specific factors that must be taken into consideration if truly, indiginous vegetable farmers and associated communities will expand farm production profitably.
