What is it about?
Currently, adaptive survey design is a standard option in redesigns of person and household surveys at Statistics Netherlands and it has been implemented for the Dutch Health survey in 2018. The population is divided into homogeneous groups in terms of response probability. Each group is subjected to a tailor-made approach strategy so that the final response reflects the population as closely as possible. The techniques used are: clustering with a classification tree algorithm and k-means.

Why is it important?
Adaptive survey design is effective in increasing the accuracy of statistical results and reducing survey costs.
Perspectives
This is the beginning of adaptive survey design in mixed mode surveys. To understand mode-specific measurement errors, further research is needed.
