What is it about?

This research identifies the features of blockchain that are useful for IoT and encapsulate them into lightweight software components that can be deployed close to an IoT network.

Why is it important?

This research is important because it proposes an alternative to breaking the barrier of limited computing at the edge of IoT networks. By hosting blockchain features spread on an edge network, we created a collaborative IoT environment. Also, instead of implementing a competitive consensus like traditional blockchain implementations, this research implements a collaborative consensus supported by the edge network.

Perspectives

Nowadays, edge devices have enough computing capabilities to handle processing and even analytics tasks. The edge becomes powerful when all components work together but performing different tasks. This paper is one of the first studies that seek to propose alternatives to run blockchain at the edge of IoT networks.
