Adherence to Type 1 Diabetes Care Visits After Transfer From Pediatric to Adult Care: A Prospective Cohort Study

What is it about?

Irregular diabetes-care visits are linked with worsening Hemoglobin A1c and diabetes complications. We show that 1 in 5 adolescents with type 1 diabetes have delayed transfer of care between their last pediatric and their first adult visits and that as many as 1 in 3 do not adhere to their adult visits after transfer. This delayed transfer of care also puts young adults at higher risk of disengaging from their adult diabetes-care.
