Why is it important?
Diabetes is a life limiting illness, although people survive to older age with diabetes. They often have heart disease, kidney damage and nerve damage that can cause unpleasant symptoms and unnecessary suffering. Palliative care can be used with diabetes care to reduce suffering. proactively planning for end of life means people are more likely to have 'a good death' according to what that means for them and the things they value.
Perspectives
I am passionate about contributing information that will help ensure older people with diabetes receive the quality holistic care for all stages of their life. I hope this paper will help clinicians and people with diabetes meet these aspirations.
