What is it about?
People with different body weights may have different blood metabolite patterns linked to future weight gain and diabetes risk. In this study, we found that certain blood metabolites predicted long-term weight gain, especially among lean individuals. These metabolite patterns were also linked to a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Identifying these early metabolic signals may help prevent weight gain and diabetes, particularly in lean people who may otherwise be overlooked.
