The blood levels of the neuron-specific protein NfL increase more over time in people with type 2 diabetes who develop diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) compared to those who do not develop DPN. These NfL trajectories might be useful in DPN monitoring, suggesting that NfL could have value as a biomarker for DPN.
