What is it about?
Diabetes medications that cause low blood sugar should be deintensified (decreased or stopped) when they may be causing more harm than benefit. We conducted a national survey of U.S. physicians in which we found that most physicians made no change to these higher-risk diabetes medications in situations where guidelines recommend that the medications be deintensified. We also found that half of physicians selected more aggressive blood sugar targets than guidelines for older adults with complex or poor health.
