The earliest stage of type 1 diabetes, stage 1, is defined by the presence of multiple islet autoantibodies. We showed that multiple multiple islet autoantibody positivity can be defined in various ways, and this definition significantly impacts the risk of progression to symptomatic or stage 3 type 1 diabetes.
