What is it about?
We describe critical cases presenting in COVID-19 related Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) together with new onset Type 1 diabetes mellitus in Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) and outline the management of this critical condition. Early institution of inotropes/vasopressors is essential for improvement of acidosis. Management of MIS-C using methylprednisolone or IVIG or anti-inflammatory drugs is better initiated after DKA resolution and shift to subcutaneous insulin. Fluid balance needs careful monitoring (especially with presence of cardiac dysfunction) and insulin doses need be increased.
