What is it about?
We describe an apparent increase in new-onset type 1 diabetes in children during the Covid-19 pandemic, with evidence of current or past Covid-19 infection in a proportion of those tested. A high proportion of children were unwell at presentation and we postulate that Covid-19 exposure contributed to the observed increase in cases, by causing or accelerating type 1 diabetes onset.
