What is it about?
A growing body of work has suggested that time spent sedentary (sitting down) can negatively affect your heart health, especially in older adults. Our study showed that cardiovascular risks went up with increased time spent sitting even in extremely active older adults (a group that were active about 2.5 hours per day).

Why is it important?
Our study definitively showed that sitting is an important risk factor for heart issues in older adults, regardless of how active you are.
Perspectives
Personally, I have always thought that if I maintained a high level of physical activity, time spent sedentary (such as watching television) was not a large issue. My results have helped change my behaviour, especially during the current pandemic.
