What is it about?

Chronic steroid hormone glucocorticoid exposure, which can be caused by long-term stress and glucocorticoid therapy, can induce diabetes and excess blood glucose. It is well established that glucocorticoids treatment increases the expression of enzymes involved in glucose production in the liver. In this study, a novel signaling pathway in the liver cells is identified to be induced by chronic glucocorticoid exposure that can further enhance the expression of glucose production enzymes, which can ultimately result in the elevation of blood glucose levels.
