What is it about?

Disturbances in insulin secretion underlie the development of type 2 diabetes. In this manuscript, we demonstrate that the protein VPS41 is required for glucose homeostasis by influencing insulin storage and regulated secretion. Absence of VPS41 leads to diabetes in mice.

Why is it important?

Mutations within the VPS41 gene are associated with type 2 diabetes in humans. Our study further indicates that VPS41 might be a factor contributing to the development of the disease.

Perspectives

This study is the product of a fantastic collaboration between four research labs across three different continents.
