What is it about?
A specific gene, named HLA-DQ6, is known to provide strong protection against the development of type 1 diabetes. We describe a very rare cohort of individuals that developed type 1 diabetes in the presence of this gene to provide insights into the potential genetic and immunologic mechanisms behind failed genetic protection.
