What is it about?
Identification of novel factors that regulate adipocyte metabolism could enable new therapeutic strategies to ameliorate insulin resistance. We here report that the valine degradation product, 3-hydroxyisobutyrate (3-HIB), not only serves as strong circulating marker for insulin resistance, but also directly affects the function of white and brown adipocytes.
