What is it about?
While diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness, blind people are also at a higher risk for developing diabetes. We examined differences in self-reported diabetes self-management education topics between blind and non-blind adults with diabetes. We found that blind participants were more likely to report being counseled on Strategies to promote treatment adherence and Noncompliance with medical regimen than non-blind adults with diabetes were, yet blind participants and non-blind participants did not differ on self-reported number of primary care provider visits nor amount of time spent in diabetes education.
