What is it about?

Overbasalization, defined as the titration of basal insulin beyond an appropriate dose, increases risk for adverse effects (e.g. hypoglycemia and weight gain) without achieving the glycemic targets needed to optimally manage Type 2 Diabetes and prevent complications. There remains a need to determine the prevalence of overbasalization and in what situations it may be present. Our study’s objective is to identify the prevalence of overbasalization in a family medicine practice and to characterize patient variables associated with overbasalization.
